BLOCKS OF THE MONTH: PARK AVENUE, EAST 50TH STREET
Congratulations to the property owners, businesses, and residents from our two most recent Blocks of the Month!
MAY
Park Avenue,
between East 58th Street and East 59th Street
This block of Park Avenue was selected for two reasons. During the month of May, several businesses -- including our friends at TD Bank, at 500 Park Avenue -- stepped up and generously offered to help promote East Midtown Partnership marketing initiatives and expand their personal involvement in the community. This commitment to building the economy in our district is certainly worthy of recognition. In addition, this gives us an opportunity to again express our appreciation for The Fund for Park Avenue, which plants and maintains the Park Avenue center malls with no government support. Every dollar that goes into this major New York beautification initiative (as well as their holiday tree lighting) comes from private donors, and the Fund does a diligent job working to raise these funds and make sure they're spent wisely and for the betterment of our entire community. To learn more about The Fund for Park Avenue, click on the link above. This short block is home to five hotels: The Benjamin, Affinia 50, San Carlos, W New York, and Kimberly. It stands to reason that it has an especially large volume of pedestrian traffic... as well as the cleanliness concerns that accompany that volume. The block has two other unique considerations: it is adjacent to the subway line (bringing even more people to its street and sidewalk); and it is near the deployment point in our district where sanitation crews start and finish their days... although their routes take them elsewhere for long stretches of time. Working with concerned hoteliers, though, we have been able to adjust sanitation crew schedules to better meet the needs of district cleanliness. We want the guests at those five hotels (as well as throughout the rest of the district!) to consider East Midtown to be a clean, pleasant highlight of their visit. If you have a cleanliness concern -- whether a chronic problem or a one-time incident -- contact us and let us try to address it. And hey -- you might even become the Block of the Month!
